Well as the time to the wedding starting to get closer, I started to get really nervous, but Sharon ensured me that things were under control, she told me she was taking care of the food, cake and everything else, and that I was the most nervous bride she had ever known. Invitations were sent out months ago, and over the summer and such they started to trickle in and finally the number of people that confirmed were small, but that did not discourage the plans for Sharon and I’s big day. So I made a list and once I realized that things were not as hectic as I thought they were, I decided to start to enjoy all of the events and such that was leading up to the big day.
One of the things I was looking forward to, now in a positive, rather than a nervous manner was seeing the flowers that Lori the florist had made for my special day. It had been almost 2 months that I had seen the flowers, and I was getting anxious to see how they would look, and once again, Sharon offered words of encouragement that things would work out fine.
Another thing that I was nervous about was the “minister”, this was a friend of mine that wanted to help me make the day special and perform the ceremony. At the time, Lesbian weddings were not accepted and Sharon and I decided that at least we would go through the ceremony and celebrate out love for one another. We could not find a minister or even a justice of the peace that would consider performing a ceremony for two lesbians, but that did not stop us. Sooooooo, Trish, a very well spoken and friend agreed to stand and allow Sharon and I express out love for each other in front of witnesses, while she officiated.
My bridesmaid, Rebecca, was also a part of the wedding, and once I knew that she had a dress for the wedding, and it was right in line with the colours, I knew that things were under control. The plan was to have Rebecca come over about 11am to look after the house while Sharon took me over to the photographers to have my bridal portraits done.
So with all of the other plans “in motion”, I concentrated on the last big trip out to firm up wedding plans. I set the appointment up with Lori for 6:30pm, that would give Sharon enough time to get home from work, help me make sure everything looked perfect then leave for the flowers appointment. So, since Sharon was coming right home from work, and would be wearing her work clothes, I decided that work attire is what I would be wearing as well.
So I started the long and enjoyable task of flipping through my wardrobe to find the perfect outfit for the trip, and started to look at all sorts of combinations. One blouse that kept on sticking out at me was a gray silk blouse with a high collar and detailed front. I looked at many different combinations of other blouses and skirts, but kept on coming back to this blouse, and then finally decided that this was the blouse I was going to be wearing and then started to look for an appropriate skirt. A black skirt was what I decided on, and since I have a ton of black skirts in my wardrobe, the choice was endless, but what I finally chose was a three tiered skirt, just below the knee length, business, leaning towards semi-formal, but it would work, it was perfect, and appropriate as it was an old ex-lovers skirt and thought it was “payback” as I chose it. Now that the clothing was decided, I could start looking through for lingerie to compliment the outfit. I decided on a white lacy camisole for the top, a short white lacy slip under the skirt, red lacy panties and my standard bra and black pantyhose. That was to be the outfit, and the rest I would decide the night I was dressed and ready to go.
The Wednesday arrived and I got home and washed closely and went to the bedroom and started to lay out all of the clothes I had decided on. I then slipped into my lingerie for the evening, my bra, panties, slip and camisole and then covered up with my pink silky makeup coat and headed to the washroom to put on my makeup. I applied my makeup as per usual, business would be the style, light pink on the upper lids, purple on the lower, and a streak of charcoal on the outer lids, mascara, black eyeliner, not too thick, light pink blush and light pink lipstick, just perfect.
I then returned to my bedroom and started getting dressed I slipped on the gray silk blouse, then my skirt and looked in the mirror to make sure everything was perfect. I then decided to complete the outfit off with my low black patent heels, gold bracelet, gold anklet, gold watch, a wide black belt, and finally a healthy spritz of panache perfume.
Once I was satisfied with my look, I packed my purse and met Sharon in the living room as she was waiting for me. She was dressed from work, wearing a charcoal coloured blouse and skirt combination, looking really professional and pretty. Sharon helped me with my hair making sure it looked perfect and we chit chatted about the wedding, plans and such, then eventually, we helped each other in out long winter coats and headed out the door for the flowers appointment.
Sharon drove us to Lori’s house and let me take the lead as we were greeted by Lori at the door “hi Jennifer, how are you, and nice to see you as well Sharon”, and I smiled as she had remembered Sharon’s name, that to me was special. Lori invited us in, offered to take our coats and welcomed us to sit down and make ourselves comfortable.
She had both of the bouquets displayed on the table that I saw the one that inspired my own bouquet a month or so ago, and I started to get excited as they looked just so absolutely wonderful!!, I immediately had visions of the flowers with my whole ensemble and knew they would look fantastic. Lori then went and got the bouquets, both mine and Rebecca’s and brought them over to the couch that Sharon and I were sitting on and handed Sharon the “bridesmaid” bouquet and me the bridal one, and I sat and looked at it in awe. It was more beautiful than I ever imagines, and Sharon just looked over and could see by the smile on my face that I was pleased and made the comment, “I think she likes it”.
Lori then started to offer enhancements to the bouquets and said that if I did not like the “baby’s breath” flowers she had added, that “mini daisies” could be added, and I looked it over and decided the mini daisies would be better and Sharon agreed. I then inquired about the stand she was used for holding my flowers and Lori offered me the stand she had, for a price and I decided I would most likely designing my own stand after the wedding.
Lori then asked me to take the bouquet and lead me to the stairs and had me stand on them, and then positioned the bouquet with my hands to demonstrate how I should be holding it on my wedding day, and then she started to measure the length. She looked sideways, and such, and asked me if I were comfortable with holding the flowers, and I told her yes, and she mentioned they were the perfect length for my petite stature and that they were going to be fantastic with the dress we had described.
I then sat back down on the couch and Lori start to write down all the final details, and it was decided that the “daisy” replacement was to be done and Sharon was to pick them up the Friday night before the wedding. Lori then asked if I wanted and artificial flower spray on them, and I said sure and she sprayed a little in the air and Sharon and I smelled it, and it was really pretty, Lori indicated it would most likely only last the wedding and the reception, but that was fine for me!. Lori then looked at me and told me that a deposit of a portion of the flowers needed to be handed down, and Sharon immediately took out her check book and sighed, “a bridesmaid’s work is never done”, and asked Lori the amount of the cheque, and wrote it. I smiled back approvingly at Sharon as she wrote out the cheque.
Lori then asked who would be picking up the flowers and Sharon spoke up, saying, “I will, as the bride will be probably be too busy”, I just smiled and said, “you can bet I will!”.
Sharon and I then thanked Lori, handed the flowers back to her and then she brought our coats and we slipped them on and headed our the door, with Lori leaving one final farewell, “good luck on your big day Jennifer”. I smiled and looked back at Sharon as we headed back to the car.
Sharon and I headed to our favorite restaurant, Hoagies, a roadhouse to meet the Minister, Trish. Sharon and I chatted about the flowers and how changing to the daisies was a great idea and other details about the food and such for the wedding, and before long we arrived at the restaurant. The restaurant was virtually empty and as Sharon and I walked in, we were greeted by the waitress that informed us that we could sit anywhere, so we chose a quiet corner so that when the minister arrived we could have a quiet spot to discuss details. Before we actually sat down both Sharon and I needed to use the ladies room and proceeded to the back of the establishment were we both proceeded to do our business and met each other at the mirror as we touched up our lipstick and checked our hair. As Sharon and I left the washroom, we noted that except for the waitress serving us, Sharon and I were the only women in the restaurant.
Sharon and I grabbed the table we talked about when we entered and proceeded to order dinner and a few minutes later, my friend Trish, who agreed to officiate the wedding arrived and joined Sharon and I. Over the meal we discussed all the plans of the ceremony and I gave her a copy of what we wanted in the service, and she read it over and found it to be perfect.
We eventually ended our dinner with a firm plan in mind for the actual wedding ceremony and left Trish a copy of the vows, and Sharon and I left for home.
On the way home Sharon and I chatted about the night before the wedding, not only picking up my dress and Sharon picking up the flowers but decorating and getting the food ready. Sharon and I both agreed that we should make a long list of things to get ready and check them off as the date of the 17th, grew near.
Sharon and I arrived home and relaxed and continued to talk about the wedding, and the next time I go out will be the last time before the actual wedding!.
