The day before today was the first day of the 90/91 season and a wonderful experience, but this day was to be special all on its own. I would get the chance to try on another piece of my wedding ensemble and get my dress fitted for the heels. It was also a chance to go out and set up another very important piece of my wedding experience and that was the photographers.
Waking up the morning of the fitting was also special, as I spent the entire night with my fiancee in lingerie and snuggling in bed. I woke up with tons of excitement in my body, the night before was so special, as I had to described my dress, the longing for slipping into the dress and to see myself in it was driving me crazy, I was thinking about it all the night before. What would it be like again?, would I pass like I did before, and what kind of attention would I get, well I was not only exciting, but as I looked at myself in the mirror as I woke up, I felt myself tingling.
After spending time in the washroom, showering and cleaning up, I made my way to the bedroom, to pick my wardrobe, apply my makeup and let my finance use the facilities. As always, I had to thumb through my closets and start to wonder what to wear for the wonderful trip out, I looked mainly for a skirt and blouse and modeled several in front of my mirror, before deciding on a short jean skirt, short sleeved striped shirt and nude coloured pantyhose. Makeup was not as dramatic as my business makeup, but included light blue shades, and light pink on my lids, black eyeliner, black mascara, and did my lips and blush with slightly lighter colours than normal. I finished my makeup, slipped on my gold anklet, gold bracelet, black watch, low white heels, and completed the look with a spritz of Sharon's Halston's perfume. I was all set and went down from my bedroom to the living room to a waiting Sharon who looked me over with approval and then suggested that I might want to adjust my wardrobe slightly to wear a skirt I had not worn out in a long time, and that was my long flared out jean skirt, I then agreed and went and changed, in order to compensate for the longer skirt, I changed from my low heels to my high 3" white heels. Since the purpose of this bridal visit was to have my dress re-fitted, I packed my tote bag with my new satin shoes and placed my purse in it as well.
After changing and seeing Sharon downstairs she looked me over and looked at me pleasingly and smiled and said I looked perfect. We then made our way to the car and headed out to the bridal salon, which was a trip I was very much anticipating.
As we entered the bridal salon, I lead the way, and it had been several months since I was in the bridal salon and it had moved to a new location, one that was not so "segmented", and presented all of the feminine things more openly. As I entered the bridal salon I was greeted by a very attractive young salesgirl who asked why I was there, and when I told her that I was there she said, "no problem Jennifer, we have been expecting you". She then informed me that the store location was new and that the fitting rooms were downstairs, and as she said, "not so cramped as the last place, and it is allot easier for putting your ensemble together". I was told that the seamstress would be ready for me in about 5 minutes and Sharon and I started to browse around the store, Sharon went and started looking at the bridesmaids and special occasion dresses and I started looking at the accessories that were laid out, the satin gloves, earrings, garters, etc.
Before long, I was being called by the salesgirl that my fitting session was ready for downstairs. I followed Sharon downstairs to the new change area and was quite pleased when I saw it for the first time. As we entered the area, we were greeted by a large floor to ceiling three way mirror, and just in front of those mirrors was a platform and in the ceiling from back and front were spotlights focused on the platform, I was really excited once I saw that area. We were greeted by the seamstress that greeted me by name and took my gown and placed it in a very large curtained off change area and acknowledged to the seamstress that Sharon, my friend would assist me in getting into my gown.
It was almost 6 months since the last time I actually saw or changed into my dress, so when I saw it again, I fell in love with it all over again. As I stood there with Sharon painstakingly doing up all of the small buttons on the back I found the feeling of the dress sensational, the bodice, the skirt, the crinoline, etc., it was quite overwhelming. Once the last button and zipper was done up, Sharon helped me slip into my satin bridal heels and once again, made comments about how high they were, and I assured her not to worry, that I was a big girl and could handle it.
Sharon opened up the large curtain and let me make my way to the platform in the middle of all of the lights, were the seamstress was waiting for me. She spent a few minutes walking around me and getting familiar with the dress and fluffed out the train the whole distance. She then asked about the train while she was hemming the skirt of the dress and I told her that I thought about changing the length of the train, but then finally decided to leave it the full distance. The seamstress told me that she already made provisions to have the skirt of the dress to be able to be "bustled" and then proceeded to show Sharon, my maid of honor for the fitting, and after she was complete, noted the flower rose at the back of the dress and she mentioned that it should be removed, but I protested and said that I wanted it to stay and she told me that if I wanted it, it would stay.
Once the fitting portion of the visit was complete I asked the seamstress about going looking for a headpiece while in my gown and she said no problem and proceeded to fling my train over my right arm. The seamstress and Sharon helped me off the platform, and once I was on the ground I proceeded up the stairs to the main store area all dressed in my wedding gown and 4" satin wedding pumps. After making my way up the stairs, I was immediately greeted by the pleasant salesgirl that greeted me when I first came and she just looked and smiled and said, "Oh your up hear for your headpiece, let me get someone to help you". I was lead over to the headpieces by the salesgirl and stood in front of a full length mirror. The headpieces were in the middle of the store and on either side of them were change rooms and on the opposite wall of the headpiece's display was the bridal gowns. As Sharon and I tried on different headpieces and looking back and front of them, I was thrilled at the other activity that was going on around me. To my left was another bride trying on her gown with her mother and after trying on one of the gowns, they both looked at me and both made comments on how pretty that my dress was and I smiled back and said thank you, and as the daughter walked back into the change room, the mother looked me over and commented to me "what a pretty bride you make", and I just smiled back, and was thrilled from head to toe. On my right was a group of 3 bridesmaid's trying on their back velvet and green taffeta short dresses, as they came out of the change area, all of them looked me over and complimented me on my dress and said that I looked pretty and they loved the dress, once again I was thrilled and melted at the comments. A middle aged sales lady came over and assisted Sharon and I with all of the different headpieces and veils and finally we found a headpiece that suited the dress and my face and combined with the veil that I was going to borrow off Sharon, it was perfect.
Once the headpiece was chosen, we went back to the change area that we were first in and Sharon helped me out of my wedding dress, and as she hung the dress up, I was in awe of its beauty. I went to the cash and put down a deposit on my headpiece and inquired about satin gloves, as Sharon and I decided that they would really set the gown off well, and the salesgirl finished up the headpiece sale and then showed me over to the glass table that had all of the accessories for brides. She searched for gloves but could not find any in stock and promised that they would have some on stock for the next time I was in, she then proceeded to ask if I had my earrings and garter and lied and said that I already had. You see, Sharon warned me about these bridal shops and how they mark everything up allot and after seeing a cheap looking pair of earrings for $30, I was convinced she was right. Before we left, I made the next appointment for my dress on my birthday, Sept. 29th, and I thought about that as we set the date, my birthday, my dress, how wonderful.
Before the trip today, I made several calls to many different photographers and got prices and availability of photo shoots and came up with a place right near our house that was a studio and that was a reasonable price, and the main thing that I was looking for was a female photographer, which this one had.
Once we left the bridal salon, we drove to the studio and yet another important part of the bridal experience was to be completed. As we entered the store, we were greeted by the photographer's assistant and she told us to have a seat in the lobby and that she would be right with us. Once two women were done with their photo shoot, we were invited to the studio and were introduced to the photographer, who asked many questions about the shoot, like, will your husband be with you?, is this the same day as the wedding?, is this a surprise for your husband?, what time will you be arriving?. It was allot of fun answering all of those questions and once finished, I was convinced that this was the perfect place to come. As we left the store, we set the time for the photo shoot to be at 12:30pm, that would allow enough time for everything to be set and time for our guests to arrive.
We left the studio and headed for home, with a couple more important tasks to make the wedding experience completed.
